Mapping a Decade of Instructional Model Research in Primary Education: A Global Bibliometric Analysis (2015–2024)

Instructional models play a pivotal role in shaping pedagogical practices, especially in primary education where foundational competencies are established. Despite growing scholarly attention, there remains a lack of comprehensive insight into the evolution, key contributors, and global patterns of research in this field. This study employs a dual bibliometric approach to map the scientific landscape of instructional model research in primary education between 2015 and 2024. A total of 184 peer-reviewed articles were analyzed using Bibliometrix R-package, focusing on annual growth patterns, thematic trends, relevant sources and authors, and international research distribution. The findings reveal a sharp increase in publications post-2019, with Indonesia emerging as a leading contributor both in quantity and citation impact. Prominent themes such as creative thinking, STEM integration, and contextual pedagogy have dominated recent discourse, reflecting a global shift towards student-centered and adaptive instructional strategies. The study also identifies fragmented yet growing collaborative networks and underscores a need for deeper international partnerships. This research offers both a conceptual roadmap and empirical foundation for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers aiming to strengthen instructional innovation aligned with the aspirations of Society 5.0 and SDG 4. To our knowledge, no prior study has integrated such comprehensive bibliometric insights in this domain.
