Abstract

This study aims to examine the roles of Halal Awareness and Materialism in moderating the effects of Intrinsic Religiosity and Extrinsic Religiosity on Halal Certification Intention. The population of this study consists of Muslim owners of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the culinary sector. The sampling technique employed was non-probability sampling using a convenience sampling approach. A total of 237 respondents participated in this study. This research adopted a quantitative approach, utilizing primary data collected directly from the respondents. The analytical method applied in this study was Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 4 software. The findings reveal that Intrinsic Religiosity, Extrinsic Religiosity, and Halal Awareness each have a positive effect on Halal Certification Intention. In contrast, Materialism does not have a significant effect on Halal Certification Intention.Regarding the interaction effects, Halal Awareness was found not to moderate the relationship between Intrinsic Religiosity and Halal Certification Intention; however, it does moderate the relationship between Extrinsic Religiosity and Halal Certification Intention. Similarly, Materialism was found to moderate the effect of Extrinsic Religiosity on Halal Certification Intention but does not moderate the effect of Intrinsic Religiosity on Halal Certification Intention.
