Baznas scholarship: a Qualitative Study on the Impact on Student Academic Quality and Achievement in Tasikmalaya Regency

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the BAZNAS Scholarship on the quality of education and academic achievement of students in Tasikmalaya Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study explores the experiences and perceptions of scholarship recipients through in-depth interviews with 10 informants (9 students and 1 BAZNAS representative). Data analysis was conducted thematically using NVivo 12. The results indicate that the impact of the BAZNAS Scholarship is multidimensional. Economically, the scholarship alleviates financial burdens, allowing students to focus on their studies. From an academic perspective, the program enhances learning motivation, engagement, and academic achievement in some cases, although outcomes vary depending on individual factors. Regarding educational quality, the scholarship supports active participation, learning interactions, and the development of academic and personal competencies. However, there are limitations such as delays in fund disbursement and a lack of academic mentoring. Therefore, the program’s effectiveness needs to be enhanced through the integration of financial assistance with comprehensive mentoring to maximize benefits for recipients in the local area.
