Today's environmental crisis is a serious threat to humanity globally, and Indonesia is no exception. To overcome this problem, extra effort is needed to instil environmental awareness to the community, which is pursued in various ways. Islamic boarding schools are one of the educational institutions that are considered appropriate for implementing Islamic-based environmental moral education, given their great influence in people's lives. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of environmental education in Attibyan Islamic Boarding School as the basis for the formation of ecopesantren. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The implementation of environmental morals in Attibyan will then be identified with “the 5-D staged approach” as developed by Bob Doppelt. The results of the study show that the activities at the Attibyan Islamic Boarding School have applied the core elements of the ecopesantren concept. The implementation of environmental education values at the Islamic Boarding School has reached the level of doing and even defending. Although the implementation of various policies and programs in this pesantren still needs to be developed, these findings show that the main foundation of ecopesantren is environmental moral education, not various supporting facilities that require large investments.
